Pattern Overview

Qi-Blood Deficiency is a chronic pattern in carpal tunnel syndrome, characterized by chronic nerve degeneration, weakness, and poor recovery. The core pathogenesis is insufficient Qi and Blood to nourish the median nerve, leading to progressive nerve degeneration and impaired function.

Key Symptoms and Differentiation Points

Differentiation DimensionManifestations
Primary SymptomsChronic numbness, weakness, poor recovery, muscle atrophy
Associated SymptomsFatigue, pale complexion, dizziness, shortness of breath
Tongue and PulsePale tongue with thin white coating, thready and weak pulse
PathogenesisQi-Blood deficiency failing to nourish the nerve
EtiologyChronic illness, poor nutrition, prolonged nerve compression

Acupuncture Point Prescription

PointLocationFunction
ST36 Zusanli3 cun below the patella, 1 finger-width lateral to the tibial crestStrengthens Spleen and Stomach; tonifies Qi and Blood
SP6 Sanyinjiao3 cun above the medial malleolusNourishes Blood and Yin; regulates the Spleen and Kidney
PC7 DalingCenter of the wrist creaseSource point of Pericardium meridian; treats wrist pain
LI11 QuchiLateral end of the elbow creaseHe-Sea point of Large Intestine meridian; regulates Qi and Blood in the upper limb

Clinical Recommendation: Filiform needle, reinforcing method; moxibustion may be applied to Zusanli and Sanyinjiao to warm and tonify Qi and Blood.

Associated SymptomsAdditions/Subtractions
Severe weaknessAdd Huang Qi to enhance Qi supplementation
Poor sleepAdd Suan Zao Ren, Yuan Zhi to calm the spirit
Cold limbsAdd Gui Zhi, Sheng Jiang to warm the meridians

Western Mechanism Reference

Chronic nerve degeneration, reduced nerve regeneration capacity, and impaired axonal transport. Qi-Blood Deficiency corresponds to chronic carpal tunnel syndrome with significant nerve damage, where inadequate tissue perfusion and nutrient supply impair nerve regeneration.
