Pattern Overview
Blood Stasis is a chronic pattern in TMJ pain, characterized by **disc
displacement or degeneration, fibrin deposition in the joint cavity,
synovial microcirculatory disturbance, fixed pain, and limited
movement. The core pathogenesis is Blood stasis in the TMJ
collaterals**, causing synovial microcirculatory disturbance, fibrin
deposition, and chronic pain.
Key Symptoms and Differentiation Points
| Differentiation Dimension | Manifestations |
|---|
| Primary Symptoms |
|---|
clicking, disc displacement |
| Associated Symptoms |
|---|
tenderness on palpation |
| Tongue and Pulse |
|---|
pulse |
| Pathogenesis | Blood stasis in the TMJ collaterals |

Acupuncture Point Prescription
| Point | Location | Function |
|---|
| Xiaguan (ST7) |
|---|
zygomatic arch, below the temporal process of the zygomatic bone | Key
point for TMJ pain; invigorates blood in the joint |
| Jiache (ST6) |
|---|
zygomatic arch, about 1 cun anterior to the angle of the mandible |
Local point; relaxes the masseter muscle |
| Hegu (LI4) |
|---|
metacarpals | Regulates Qi and invigorates blood |
| Xuehai (SP10) | On the medial thigh, 2 cun above the patella |
|---|
Invigorates blood and resolves stasis |
| Ashi points | Tender spots around the TMJ area |
|---|
invigoration and pain relief |
Clinical Recommendation: Filament needle, reducing method; may
combine with cupping on the local area to enhance blood stasis
resolution.

Disc displacement or degeneration with fibrin deposition in the joint
