Pattern Overview

Cold-Dampness is a common pattern in lower back pain, characterized by

**cold and heavy pain in the lower back, aggravated on rainy days, and

relieved by warmth. The core pathogenesis is invasion of Cold-Damp

pathogens into the lumbar meridians**, where cold causes contraction and

dampness causes heaviness, obstructing the meridians and impairing

Qi-Blood circulation.

Dampness.

Western Mechanism Reference

Muscle spasm with cold sensitivity, cold-induced vasoconstriction, local

ischemia, and decreased pain threshold. Cold-Dampness lower back pain

corresponds to cold-induced muscle spasm, myofascial pain syndrome, and

acute attack after lumbar cold exposure, commonly seen during weather

changes, prolonged exposure to damp environments, and inadequate lumbar

warmth protection.
