Pattern Overview
Kidney-Yang Deficiency is a severe pattern in allergic rhinitis,
characterized by **HPA axis dysfunction, severe nasal congestion, cold
intolerance, frequent urination, and generalized immune dysfunction**.
The core pathogenesis is **Kidney-Yang deficiency failing to warm the
body**, leading to HPA axis dysfunction, reduced cortisol levels, and
impaired immune regulation.
Key Symptoms and Differentiation Points

|---|
| Primary Symptoms |
|---|
cold intolerance, frequent urination |
| Associated Symptoms |
|---|
lower back soreness |
| Tongue and Pulse |

Acupuncture Point Prescription
| Point | Location | Function |
|---|
| Shenshu (BL23) | Lower back, 1.5 cun lateral to L2 |
|---|
point of Kidney meridian; warms Kidney-Yang |
| Mingmen (GV4) |
|---|
processes | Warms Kidney-Yang and strengthens the body |
| Guanyuan (RN4) | 3 cun below the umbilicus |
|---|
supplements Qi |
| Feishu (BL13) | On the upper back, 1.5 cun lateral to T3 |
|---|
Back-Shu point of Lung meridian; supplements Lung-Qi |
| Yingxiang (LI20) |
|---|
midpoint of the lateral border of the ala nasi | Opens the nasal
passages |
Clinical Recommendation: Filament needle, reinforcing method; heavy
moxibustion is strongly recommended at Shenshu and Mingmen to warm
Kidney-Yang.

Western Mechanism Reference
HPA axis dysfunction with reduced cortisol levels, generalized immune
dysfunction, and decreased stress response. Kidney-Yang Deficiency
corresponds to allergic rhinitis with HPA axis dysfunction, where
reduced cortisol levels and impaired immune regulation contribute to
severe allergic symptoms.
