Pattern Overview
Damp-Heat Bi is an inflammatory pattern in restless leg syndrome, characterized by heavy restless legs, swelling, burning sensation, and aggravation with heat. The core pathogenesis is accumulation of Damp-Heat in the leg meridians, causing inflammation, neuronal sensitization, and restless sensations.
Key Symptoms and Differentiation Points
| Differentiation Dimension | Manifestations |
| :— | :— |
| Primary Symptoms | Heavy restless legs, swelling, burning sensation, worse with heat |
| Associated Symptoms | Local warmth, tenderness, fatigue, sticky sensation in the mouth |
| Tongue and Pulse | Red tongue with yellow greasy coating, slippery and rapid pulse |
| Pathogenesis | Damp-Heat accumulating in the leg meridians |
| Etiology | Poor diet, alcohol consumption, inflammatory conditions |
Acupuncture Point Prescription
| Point | Location | Function |
| :— | :— | :— |
| SP9 Yinlingquan | Below the medial condyle of the tibia | Transforms Dampness and drains Heat |
| GB34 Yanglingquan | Depression below the head of the fibula | Master point for tendons; relaxes leg muscles |
| ST36 Zusanli | 3 cun below the patella, 1 finger-width lateral to the tibial crest | Strengthens Spleen and Stomach; tonifies Qi and Blood |
| Ashi points | Tender spots in the legs | Local clearing of Damp-Heat |
Clinical Recommendation: Filiform needle, reducing method; may combine with pricking and cupping at Ashi points to drain Damp-Heat.

| Swelling | Add Ze Xie, Che Qian Zi to promote diuresis |
| Restlessness | Add Suan Zao Ren, Ye Jiao Teng to calm the spirit |
Western Mechanism Reference
Inflammatory component with elevated inflammatory cytokines, immune dysregulation, and neuronal sensitization.
